Particulars on site-preparation for cargo containers.
A cargo container is a large rectangle of steel, manufactured for storing and shipping goods across sea or land. Simple. Yet if you place that shipping container in the wrong area, it can cause consternation and an unwillingness to use the unit as intended. That’s why an important question to ask when talking to someone about a cargo container is, “do I need to do anything special to the ground it will be placed on?” The answer is “yes and no”. This depends on certain factors.
Sea containers can be readily placed anywhere it’s needed, provided the ground is level. Level ground means that the doors on this cargo container will remain easy to open and maneuver. Container doors are heavy and often difficult to swing open. If the region has soil that becomes extremely soggy during rainy seasons or the occasional summer downpour, the doors can sink and the cargo container could list slightly if the ground isn’t even. Level ground also mean that the unit will stay steady as items are moved in and out and rearranged, not to mention the items being stored will, themselves, stay upright and safe from tipping over once locked inside.
Some customers will very often put down railroad ties to keep their storage container elevated a few inches off the ground. Here again, this helps in keeping the doors in alignment and from water reaching the bottom of these units. The same advantage can be achieved by placing down concrete blocks, and to a lesser degree, gravel. To some customers, esthetics is as important as getting a sound sea container, so the addition of gravel and the other items mentioned can give ways to a more pleasing look.
When deciding on railroad ties or concrete blocks, it’s important to remember that the drivers who deliver your cargo container can only lower the unit for you. They can’t help you arrange the ties, planks or blocks. It’s up to the customer to have other means of placing the container on the objects they’re using.
Doing things the right way before your shipping container arrives will save you much in time and energy. Take a look at the site before it arrives. You’ll be very happy that you did.
